Job Purpose
To deliver high quality HGV driver training in line with current UK legislation, DVSA standards and organisational procedures. The role is suited to an enthusiastic instructor who is committed to helping learners develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become safe, professional drivers.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
- Deliver practical HGV driver training in accordance with DVSA standards and national occupational standards.
- Plan and deliver high quality training that prepares learners for their practical driving tests.
- Monitor learner progress and adapt training to individual learning needs.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, safety and customer care throughout all training sessions.
Learner Management and Support
- Ensure learners are registered, identified and monitored in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Support and motivate learners throughout their training, encouraging confidence, engagement and achievement.
- Provide a positive, professional and inclusive learning environment.
Assessment and Quality Assurance
- Assess learner progress throughout training and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Maintain high standards of training quality and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Take part in observations, standardisation activities and quality assurance processes where required.
Compliance and Regulatory Requirements
- Ensure all training is delivered in accordance with current legislation, DVSA standards and company procedures.
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and industry best practice.
- Promote safe, responsible and compliant driving at all times.
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
- Provide a professional, friendly and learner focused service.
- Represent DMP Training positively when working with learners, employers and external organisations.
Administration and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate learner records and training documentation.
- Complete all paperwork promptly and accurately.
- Support quality assurance and audit requirements where necessary.
Health, Safety and Resources
- Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out vehicle checks and ensure training vehicles are safe, clean and roadworthy.
- Promote safe working practices throughout all training activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Full HGV licence for the category being instructed, held for a minimum of three years.
- Excellent driving skills with a strong commitment to road safety.
- Good communication and coaching skills.
- A professional, reliable and learner focused approach.
- A good understanding of current UK professional driver legislation and DVSA standards.
Desirable
- Experience delivering HGV driver training.
- Experience preparing learners for DVSA practical driving tests.
- Previous experience working within the transport or logistics industry.
- A willingness to undertake further professional development.
Continuing Professional Development
- Actively engage in ongoing professional development to maintain instructional skills and industry knowledge.
- Keep up to date with changes to DVSA guidance, legislation and best practice.
- Maintain appropriate training records where required.
