Category C1+E – Medium Goods Vehicle with Trailer Training

Who it’s for

This course is for anyone who needs to drive a Category C1 vehicle with a trailer, either for work or specific roles.

It’s suitable if you:

  • Already hold a C1 licence and want to add trailer entitlement
  • Want to go straight from a car licence to C1+E

The training route depends on your current licence, and we’ll guide you through the right option.

What you’ll learn

  • Safe control of the vehicle and trailer
  • Reversing and manoeuvring with a trailer
  • Coupling and uncoupling
  • Load safety
  • Full preparation for the DVSA driving test

Entry requirements

Car (Category B) to C1+E:

  • A full car licence
  • D4 medical
  • Theory and Hazard Perception tests

If driving professionally, Driver CPC Modules 2 and 4 are also required.

Category C1 to C1+E:

  • A full C1 licence
  • No extra theory tests required

If driving professionally and you don’t already hold it, Driver CPC Module 4 is required. We can arrange medicals, training and tests for you.

Training and tests in one place

  • Practical training and DVSA preparation
  • Reversing and off-road assessment (Module 3a)
  • Driver CPC Module 4 training and test

You’ll take your DVSA test in our vehicle, so there are no surprises.

Course length

Training is in 4-hour sessions. Most learners complete the course in:

  • 16 hours, or
  • 20 hours
